My storyMi historia

Broke, rich, broke again, and rich again.En quiebra, rico, otra vez en quiebra, y rico otra vez.

This is the honest version, mistakes included. I'm sharing it because somebody out there is where I used to be, and I want them to know it gets better.

01
The beginningEl comienzo

Where I come fromDe dónde vengo

Nobody in my life ever told me "I believe in you." Not growing up, not as a young man, not when I started my first business.

So I learned to believe in myself the hard way, one step at a time.Así que aprendí a creer en mí a la mala, un paso a la vez.

02
Getting startedLos inicios

Building from scratchConstruyendo desde cero

I started my first business with no circle, no mentors and no family connections.Empecé mi primer negocio sin círculo, sin mentores y sin conexiones familiares.

Back then I was mostly trying to get out of poverty.

03
The first riseEl primer ascenso

On TV, on billboards, everywhereEn la tele, en espectaculares, en todas partes

Things took off. I was doing TV interviews, billboards, ads and social media.Las cosas despegaron. Hacía entrevistas en televisión, espectaculares, anuncios y redes sociales.

If I'm honest, it was more ego than service back then. How I looked, how people saw me. I was young and somewhat selfish.

04
The fallLa caída

Made it. Lost it. Twice.Lo logré. Lo perdí. Dos veces.

I became a millionaire and lost it all. Then I built it back and lost it all again.Me hice millonario y lo perdí todo. Luego lo reconstruí y lo volví a perder.

I went through challenges most people never recover from.

The comebackEl regreso

Faith, belief, action, patienceFe, creencia, acción, paciencia

Faith, belief, action and patience.Fe, creencia, acción y paciencia.

The second time around, what got me up was faith. Faith in God, in me, in my experience, in my wife and her support, and in hard work. I trusted that it could be done.

In six or seven years I went from a negative bank account to having a couple million dollars in the bank. This time I did it with love, excellence and the right way, and I know I'll never lose it all again.

The quiet yearsLos años tranquilos

Stepping back to raise my kidsUn paso atrás para criar a mis hijos

When my kids were born, I stopped being public and played it safer for almost two decades.

I told my son, my daughter and my wife the words I never heard: I believe in you, I love you, I'm proud of you. I did the same with my team, and 99% of the people who work with me love working here.

TodayHoy

Why I'm showing up againPor qué vuelvo a dar la cara

My daughter is off to college and my son is all grown up. My businesses run well with great people leading them, like Enrique Fonseca, who went from $3,500 a year to $200,000 a year and is now my business partner.

Now I want to be the person I needed when I was younger. To help people who feel stuck, scared or lost, especially young people and Hispanic entrepreneurs, and to enjoy this chapter with Lorena while I do it.Ahora quiero ser la persona que yo necesitaba de joven.

If I could talk to my younger selfSi pudiera hablar con mi yo más joven

I believe in you. I love you. I'm proud of you.Creo en ti. Te amo. Estoy orgulloso de ti.

Have faith and trust that you will be well. Always expect the best. Allow yourself to dream, desire what you want for your future, and declare it. Believe it so much that you can see it as if it were already done. Then take action, and do things right.

Be grateful for everything, even when everything is nothing. Help others, no matter who they are or where they stand.Sé agradecido por todo, aun cuando todo es nada.

And believe in yourself. Believe in yourself.Y cree en ti. Cree en ti.

Where are you in your story?¿En qué parte de tu historia estás tú?

If any part of this sounds like you, I'd love to hear from you.
